Tutor’s Teaching Background

I am an NUS Life Sciences graduate and currently a full-time tutor. I have been teaching Secondary Biology and Chemistry for over 4 years, including both Upper Secondary Pure and Combined Science students. I also have experience teaching Lower Secondary Science, which has given me a good understanding of how students develop the foundations needed before moving into Sec 3. Sec 2 is an important year because the concepts learnt now form the basis for Upper Secondary Biology and Chemistry. Starting tuition at this stage gives us enough time to strengthen your child's fundamentals, correct misconceptions early, and build confidence before the syllabus becomes more demanding in Sec 3. From my experience, many students find the concepts difficult to visualise or have lost confidence after struggling in class. I break down abstract concepts into simple, relatable examples and explain them step by step, so students understand the logic instead of relying on memorisation. Once they understand the concepts, they're able to apply them much more confidently to different question types. During lessons, I pay close attention to the student's answers and explanations to identify misconceptions early. I'll revisit weaker topics immediately before reinforcing them through carefully selected practice questions. This allows students to understand how the concepts they've learnt are applied in school assessments. I'm patient, approachable, and believe students learn best in an environment where they feel comfortable asking questions without fear of being judged. I often remind my students that tuition is the best place to make mistakes. every mistake corrected here is one less mistake they'll make in school. Lessons can be conducted in the open living area of your home, providing a transparent and comfortable learning environment.
