Tutor’s Teaching Background

I am an NUS Life Sciences graduate and currently a full-time tutor with over 4 years of experience teaching Chemistry. My 2025 graduating students achieved A1/A2 in their O-Level (results available upon request). I am also currently part-time teaching in a Secondary School Science Department, giving me firsthand exposure to the latest syllabus, marking requirements, question styles and common pitfalls students face in school. This is an advantage I bring beyond private tuition experience, as I can bring current school experience directly into my lessons. From my experience, many Sec 3 students find topics such as the mole concept, chemical bonding, electrolysis and acids & bases difficult to visualise, or they're unsure how to apply what they've learnt to unfamiliar questions. During lessons, I first identify the topics they're less confident in, strengthen their conceptual understanding step by step, and then reinforce the learning using TYS and exam questions. This allows students to immediately see how the concepts they've learnt are applied in actual examinations. Starting now gives us time to prepare for the EOY exams, identify weaker topics and strengthen their foundations. Rather than spending weeks revising the syllabus chapter by chapter, I can use school and exam papers to identify gaps as we go. If I spot a misconception, we revise the concept immediately and then apply it to similar questions. This allows us to revise content and build exam technique at the same time. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable asking questions. I always remind my students that every mistake we correct during class is one less mistake they'll make in the exam. My lessons are interactive and open. I want students to feel comfortable asking even the simplest questions, knowing that I'll always take the time to explain them patiently until they truly understand.
