Tutor’s Teaching Background

I believe teaching is an art - you have to teach the person, not just the subject. Every student learns differently, and understanding the person in front of you is often more important than simply knowing what you are teaching. This is something I have genuinely understood through my own experience as a teacher and tutor. I have approximately one year of hands-on teaching experience in India through NGO-led programmes, as well as part-time private tutoring. As part of my extracurricular involvement, I taught children of construction-site workers through NGOs, working with children from different age groups and educational backgrounds. I taught English, English Creative Writing, English Literature and Art, adapting my approach according to each student’s level, confidence and way of learning. Alongside this, I provided part-time private tuition, travelling to students’ homes as well as having students come to my home for lessons. I worked closely with individual students to strengthen their English, writing, comprehension and creative expression, and learned to identify where a student needed more patience, encouragement or a different way of explaining something. My experience teaching English to children from underprivileged backgrounds was particularly meaningful, as English was not a language that many of them had regular exposure to. I learned to make English feel less intimidating and more accessible through storytelling, conversations, reading, creative writing and art. For me, teaching was never simply about completing a syllabus - it was about helping a child become comfortable enough to ask questions, make mistakes and eventually find their own voice. While I do not hold a formal teaching degree, I have gained meaningful practical teaching and tutoring experience, and English and Creative Writing are particular strengths of mine. Writing has been a personal passion for years, and I am currently working towards writing a book of my own. I would love to bring that passion, along with patience, creativity and an understanding of different learning styles, into helping students not only perform better academically, but also become more confident in expressing themselves and enjoying the process of learning.
