Tutor’s Teaching Background
I have been teaching since 2018, tutoring both male and female students from Sec 1 to JC2. My students have seen an average grade improvement of 3 grades or more, and I have consistently helped my students go from failing grades to at least passing grades within short amounts of time.
In 2020, I taught 4 students for H2 Math. 2 of my students from RVHS scored A. While my other 2 students from JPJC and ASRJC scored A and C respectively. The student from JPJC started in late 2019, improving from E in JC1 to A for his A Levels. Student from ASRJC started in 2020 July, and in only 4 months improved from U to C for A Levels, after getting Us for all of her Math exams in JC.
Being a young tutor helps me to communicate and understand my students' situations and needs better. This also helps me to assist them in their academic field easily. With the small age gap, I am able to explain through analogies that the students can relate to, to allow concepts to be more easily understood, as they link these concepts with their day-to-day real-life examples. This also makes my more approachable, and students would be much more likely to enjoy the lessons and therefore learn to enjoy the subject.
I teach students not just concepts but methods to tackle questions. Many students understand concepts but are unable to apply them in questions as questions often have long preambles that confuse students. I teach students how to break down complex questions into simpler parts and solve them easily. I also teach students the marking points for teachers, so that students can learn how to answer questions effectively without wasting words.
My usual lesson involves me going through the key concepts and points for each topic, followed by doing actual questions to see how the concepts learnt should be used in answering questions. This allows students to form a link between concepts and methods for solving, and also teaches students to identify common question types and methods. Doing questions immediately after learning new concepts helps to solidify whatever was taught that lesson is extremely important. That is why I insist on having 2h classes as 1.5h will be too short.
