Tutor’s Teaching Background

I’m a positive and resourceful individual who can execute difficult tasks and doesn’t need to be micromanaged. I value helping my students understand difficult information and strongly believe that all children are unique and have something special that they can bring to their own education. I also believe in two-way communication as it is essential to effectively convey my ideas to my students and understand and empathise with their difficulties. I also appreciate active feedback as to how the lesson was effective or not for my students so I am able to better plan for future lessons or change my methods of delivery such that it is effective for my students. I have been working at a tuition centre as a teaching assistant for 2 years before starting private tuition. My roles and responsibilities include planning and creating worksheets and notes for Secondary 1 to JC2 students and teaching. Additionally, I was solely tasked with curating the E math equivalent of the IGCSE 0580 Math Syllabus and IB HL Grade 12 Math materials for the tuition centre, preparing notes and practice worksheets for their new batch of students. In the span of 2 years, the three students whom I worked with generally gained a deeper understanding of their problems and their weaker topics. They have an improvement from E8 to C5 and C6 to B3 and C5 to B4. I am currently taking 4 students, one of which is Y2 IP. My teaching methods include clearing content that the student is either currently studying in school or is weak at, going through practice questions, topical reviews and mock assessment papers. This is to build a stronger foundation before the semester assessments such that my students are able to gain wider exposure to different question types.
