Tutor’s Teaching Background

I am a part-time tuition teacher with 3 years of experience. I started teaching in 2022 in Pathlight School as a Teaching Assistant, where I was genrally supporting a Secondary 3 class. There, I was involved in aiding students in both managing their behaviour in and outside of class, as well as helping them with their class work. I was also involved in conducting a few relief lessons, be it English, Math or Science. Additionally, I was also involved in projects such as planning a Math Amazing Race as a post-examination activity, along with activities for Youth Day. Subsequently, I went on to being a part-time tuition teacher at IQ & EQ Education Services. I mainly taught Secondary Math, though I had also been involved in relieving Primary Math, English and Science classes. The class sizes that I took ranged from 1-6. Then, I went on to teach Sec 3 English with Punggol Tutors, along with giving private home tuition for Sec 5NA English. I would say that even though I am currently an Undergraduate, I am committed and dedicated to doing my best for my students, aiding them in improving. In this, my philosophy is to not focus so much on the exact grades of the student. Rather, I find it more vital to celebrate the small successes, be it in seeing them grasp a concept that I knew that could not understand previously, or even, simply having small increments in their grades. I would say that for Math in particular, my teaching style has always been trying to aid my students in actually understanding the concepts, rather than simply trying to memorise formulas. This is due in part to the manner in which I myself had been taught Math, and I find it more effective and transferrable. Other than this, I would also say that, where possible, I try to teach my students "tips and tricks" to making Math much simpler to understand and apply. In terms of English, I am currently tutoring a Secondary 5NA student as well. I would say that my style would be more towards finding out the gaps in my student's understanding, and trying to fill them, along with guiding them alongside what they are currently learning in school. Additionally, I will conduct discussions on news articles, aiding my student's in having more real-life examples that they could use for composition/oral, along with simply broadening their general knowledge.
