Tutor’s Teaching Background

I am currently in my final year of the Diploma in Law & Management at Temasek Polytechnic and am presently completing my internship at a law firm. While I do not have formal experience teaching at a tuition centre, I have taught many family members and friends informally in areas such as English. Albeit much more informal and without a clear teaching structure, I am very apt and able to provide a more streamlined teaching structure provided with the necessary materials and resources to do so.

I am very comfortable explaining concepts to younger students and breaking down difficult topics into simpler, more manageable steps. My time in Law & Management have trained me to read and understand large amounts of legal concepts, draft court documents, and explain them clearly and systematically to juniors and event clients. I am very tenacious towards teaching students who require an additional degree of aid in understanding. My approach would be patient and practical. Rather than simply giving a student the answers, I would first identify which part of the question or concept they are struggling with, explain it in simpler terms, and then work through examples with them until they are able to attempt similar questions independently.

I am also willing to prepare my own supplementary materials, such as concise notes, practice questions and revision exercises, based on the student’s syllabus and areas of weakness, granted I am informed about this arrangement beforehand.

As I am still a student myself, I understand that different students learn at different speeds and that sometimes a concept needs to be explained in a different way before it clicks. I am currently looking to take on my first regular tutoring assignments on weekends and would be most comfortable teaching primary students in subjects that match my academic strengths. I am happy to familiarise myself with the student’s current syllabus and materials beforehand so that lessons are properly prepared and targeted to what they are learning in school.
