I have been a Private tutor for approximately 2 years. My students have made improvements after engaging with me. I try to teach methods that are not taught in schools and thus engaging students and allowing them to grasp the concepts easier. As from my own experience, if the schools are not making an attempt to teach your kid the methods to excel but more of a one method fits all then I'm your guy.
