Tutor’s Teaching Background

I have years of teaching experience, and am known for my empathetic, firm, and insightful approach. I tutor General Paper as a private tutor and also with a tuition centre, and am able to provide structured lessons that are refined to each student’s needs. Students I have taught have enjoyed considerable grade improvements. As an award-winning debater, I also previously coached the Anglican High Debate team, which led them to significant success in national competitions. I have additionally taught debate and storytelling to students at Singapore American School as well, demonstrating my ability to engage with students from various backgrounds. With the unique blend of my own excellence in the subject as a student, and my effectiveness as a debate coach, I am able to provide an incisive and refreshing approach to General Paper that differ from traditional methods. I emphasise an interdisciplinary method to analysis, preparing students’ well for the uncertain nature of the subject. This is critical, as traditional methods of teaching in schools tend to box students into fixed and unhelpful ways of thinking. Students unnecessarily worry about “question types” and typecast themselves into specialising in certain today, failing to realise that General Paper is an interdisciplinary subject that demands intellectual flexibility. I look forward to working with students and parents who resonate with my teaching philosophy.
