Degree
Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Economics at National University of Singapore
I have about 4+ years of cumulative teaching experience - 2 years in teaching 3 NA Upper Secondary student in E. Math and A. Math from 2017 - 2018 and 2 years from 2020 - 2021 in teaching both 4 JC H2 Econs student. I also served as an undergraduate teaching assistant for NUS's introductory economics module. My students feedback that I am a very patient and dedicated tutor who genuinely wants to help them understand the concepts better. I strongly believe in cultivating a friend-like relationship with my students as that will encourage them to be more comfortable and daring to ask more questions. Despite so, I maintain a firm stance that my students listen attentively and do their best in classes. I supplement my teachings with my own materials, such as revision notes, timed assignments, question banks and additional practice papers, as I believe that practice makes perfect. This requires me to be resourceful, which I have been able to deliver thus far, as I am often able to locate these resources easily.
My further studies of the subject matter in my undergraduate years has enabled me to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the subject matter. Now, I am better able to understand the rationale and mechanism behind the models taught in JC, and explain them clearly to my students to allow them to find a way to best understand the subject matter. I will also tap on my university knowledge wherever appropriate to help reinforce my tutee's understanding of the subject material. For example, I will use my understanding to explain the demand and supply model concisely and rigorously so that my tutee knows what is expected. I have consistently performed well in my undergraduate economics modules, scoring above average grades ranging from B+ to A. My friends can also testify for my teaching abilities, for I often peer-tutor my friends to help them understand the concepts better and even enabling them to perform welll in exams.
In my JC years, I have consistently performed well in the subject and eventually managed to secure an A for my 'A' Level H2 Economics examination. I will share tips and tricks on how I studied with my tutee, and experiment various ways to teaching and learning with my students that works best for them. For example, one way I learnt was to go through sample economic essays to learn how to answer questions rigorously. I will search and provide large volume of sample essays and case-study questions for my students, to better prepare them in terms of answering techniques and level of rigour in their answers. I will also make myself available offline so that my students can always reach out to me in case of any last minute doubts they need clarifications on.
