In my 3 years of tutoring, i have learnt as much as i have taught. I strongly believe in using your strengths to build up and improve your weaknesses. For example, a student who has a flair for the arts can use drawings to learn other subjects in which they might be weaker in. Learning comes in various forms, not just pure memorisation. It encompasses understanding the why behind theories and their application to our daily lives. I am here to bridge the gap between textbook learning and internalising information.I have taught students of many different kinds of backgrounds, strengths and weaknesses. I have learnt to pick out what a student is good at and not so good at and hone both equally. Given my experience, i have taught students from every level ranging from P1-Secondary 4 and in teaching different subjects as well i have learnt many different teaching methods to adapt to different students. I too believe, with the degree I am pursuing in school right now helps me connect and understand my students' behaviours better. Through all the students I have taught, I have been very fortunate to bond with these students very well and they have all improved significantly, averaging from 1-4 grade jumps, and in extreme scenarios, even from fails to aces. I would like to add, i personally didn't grow up with access to tuition, and i too scored badly in my early days as a student. however, i learn to figure out patterns and little tricks to help myself study and have been successful in passing these tricks down to help my students learn better too. i learnt from my experience that the key to helping students study is to help them be comfortable with learning, especially studying in Singapore where the culture is already competitive, human nature teaches students to fear being wrong, hence keeping their questions to themselves, however, once i build a rapport, i see many of them opening up more and reaching out, no longer fearing to ask. i dont believe in being right all the time, i believe in trying.
