Problem: A lack of interest & confidence in English, with weakness in Comprehension Cloze. E.g., he would get disinterested when he was faced with topics he was unfamiliar with and got demoralised when he guessed answers wrongly.
Solution: Using research to actively engage him and help him pick up new vocabulary related to the topic beforehand. The end result was twofold 1) his interest spiked during the research process as he focused on learning about the topic rather than new vocabulary 2) his confidence improved as he was able to get many more answers correctly.
