From what I feel, POA and English would be my strongest subjects, and I have many people encouraging me to harness my innate talent in speaking and writing. For POA, it definitely helps that I'm from a Diploma in Accountancy & Finance. I liked what I did, and when I had to tutor students like my sister (S5NA), cousins (MI), and friends (Diploma), I emphasized using simple ways to remember concepts, as well as techniques on how to zoom in on what really matters. Most importantly, I focus on getting students to experience another way of thinking, ie. Accounting, and why we do what we do. Rote learning does not work for me, and it definitely wouldn't work for many others like me. ~~~~ Many people think English is "subjective" in nature, and you can only improve it by speaking, writing, and reading. Indeed, different people have different aptitudes towards the English subject, so ability does vary. But because there's no "fixed" method per se, it's much easier to teach English in my opinion. Traditionally, some students (eg. cousins) already like reading, so that's good. Others, like my sister and friends, are kinesthetic learners. They learn by experiencing, via movies, music, and by walking around to observe their surroundings. Even idle banter helps, since it's a matter of finding your way of learning, and your confidence to learn while you're at it. ~~~~ My experiences of teaching at voluntary organizations, as well as having a sister who's dyslexic, lead me to believe that learning can be taught. I don't believe in stupid questions. Worst-case scenario, you learn it's a stupid question! As much as my students know I'm passionate about what I do, they know I'm not boring or forceful. Learning should be fun, and I'll start by being fun too!
